Cavagrande

In the Canyon of the Cavagrande del Cassibile Nature Reserve.

South of Syracuse lies the Cavagrande del Cassibile Nature Reserve.

It is a canyon whose river forms wonderful lakes with cold and crystalline water. The presence of the Oriental Sycamore and the Macrostigma Trout is a thing of great naturalistic value. The area was already inhabited in the pre-Hellenic period by cultures such as the Sicilians and the Sicans, who by digging into the limestone rockdug out their homes and necropolis in the ridge of the canyon.

The trekking tour in Cavagrande takes place along a ring path of about 8km by going through downhill stretches, the riverside stretches in the undergrowth and finally going up ancient stone stairs. The experience includes a stop to dive into the wonderful waters of the Cassibile River.
