Noto Antica

This is a ring route of about 13km that will grant you a full view on the Pantalica reserve.

A few kilometres from the renowned Baroque city of Noto, stood Noto Antica, the medieval city destroyed by the great earthquake of 1669.

Even today, on the height of Mount Alveria, it is possible to visit the remains of the city and the castle entirely surrounded by the great defensive wall. On the sides of the mountain, 3 canyons made the access to the city even more difficult for enemies. One of these is Cava Carosello crossed by the Asinaro river. The river represented an inexhaustible source of wealth for Noto Antica, not only for waterbut also thanks to the mills and tanneries.

The route we will take is a large ring that at first will show us the remains of the medieval city and later will allow us to reach the Asinaro river, visit the tanneries and mills, and take a refreshing bath in a pretty lake. After the stop for lunch, we will get back on the road to the starting point.
